Still one of my absolute favorite things. The difference is in the details in a beautiful home and that now includes the drain at the bottom of your shower. Who knew that I would ever care so much about something I never thought about until I saw these!

For those of us working in the southwest market the past has been filled with designing Tuscan style houses. We could design them in our sleep and many did them because they knew it was a style that others would appreciate when they sold their home. Now that people are remodeling and staying in their homes longer we are seeing a design change here in Arizona. Many clients are looking to create more unique styles and personal styles. One trend that has been getting great footing is that of Art Deco Revival!
Can I personally say that this is my favorite era of design and I still marvel when I go to New York and explore their skyscrapers that still are relevant with that design. Recently, many of our faucet manufacturers have brought us collections that fit perfectly in that style! Here are just a few that we love here at The Studio!

The Faucet on the left is from the California Faucets Art Deco collection. The black handle inserts and polished nickel make this faucet pop in a two tone way that truly is indicative of 1930's style faucetry in Europe. The faucet on the right is from Rohl's Michael Berman Collection, this truly took its design from the old Zephyr Train of 1934.

These two faucets above we see as more Streamlined Moderne, which came immediately after Art Deco movement and was really a response to the Great Depression. It was about making things more simple and basic, yet still stylized. The Toto Aimes faucet on the left is quite stylish, but flat. The Water Decor Corales on the left is not as flat, but is machined from a solid piece of brass, which is unlike most products manufactured today that are all pieced together. |

HOT undermount lavatories. |

It seems everywhere I turn that people are afraid to buy anything but an undermount for their lavatory. Fine, we are giving in, you can have your undermount, but it has to be cool. It has to be interesting. It has to be something you want to spit into every morning and think, wow what a great sink I purchased. Here are 2 options I am obsessed with from TOTO. Look closely at the sink on the left to see the subtle baroque detailing in the bowl, brilliant and unlike anybody else!

What I am loving right now! American Standard faucets. Who knew? Seriously, this company has risen from the dead and I never thought that it was possible. American Standard, an American sanitary institution (you never thought there was such a thing did you!?) has recently come out with a number of stylish toilets that actually flush which is great, but I love their faucets. They are inexpensive, high quality and stylish.

I know it is super simple and traditional, but in chrome it lists at only $279. also in brushed nickel and oil rubbed bronze – which are hot!

How cute and contemporary and that way the water comes out of the spout is interesting and sleek. It matches the architecture of the faucet.
I LOVE that! |

The Studio - touchable look book. |

So excited about our Scottsdale showroom! Had a remodel a little while back, but finally got around to taking some pictures. This is what I like to refer to as The Studio “touchable look book.” When a fashion designer has a show they photograph all of their looks and put them into a look book and you flip through it to see the latest styles and how the designers put it together. Well with collaboration from the waterware and hardware designers at The Studio Scottsdale here are a couple of them.

A couple of months ago I was invited to New York for the debut of a new toilet seat. Yes, I flew to New York and stayed at a beautiful hotel so that Duravit could show me and a hundred or so others their latest in toiletseatery. I am telling you waterware can be fabulous! What made it a special toilet seat was that Philippe Starck designed it and came to Duravits New York showroom to kick it off.
Needless to say, Phillipe Starck is a total nut job and I love him! It was a great reminder that although what we do is important, it is not heart surgery and therefore doesn’t have to be so serious.

Obviously, this toilet seat is more than a toilet seat and has a remote control for the bidet seat features. Including: front and rear washing, self cleaning wand, heated seat and my absolute favorite a night light!
How genius a nightlight for your toilet! Isn’t that all you are really looking for when you get up in the middle of the night anyway, the place to squat down!!!

WORD CHANGE! We sell and display fabulous (get over it, I use this word all of the time) products and sometimes when you are trying to talk to someone about these fabulous items referring to them as plumbing products just doesn’t cut it. Therefore, when discussing product like faucets, lavatories and showers I will be using the word WATERWARE! You know hardware and waterware!
Therefore, plumbing will still be available to use, but to describe the more rudimentary products we sell such as pipe, valves, ballcocks and nipples. Do men dominate this industry? I think so.
WATERWARE IT IS!!! |

The beginning of a new blog! A new blog? I know, you are over it. Anything over a 140 character tweet is now officially passé. As I have said since I started in the plumbing industry, I am constantly working to convince my friends that what I do is cool. Many think we simply sell things to flush poop (which is true) and it can’t be as cool as tech or making money on Wall Street. What we do in this industry can be more than that or it can simply be just flushing poop, but either way it is necessary and I would like to blog and tweet and get people to think about plumbing for just a second. I mean let’s be serious how long are we in the bathroom? (some more than others, I will not name names) Well, why not sit on the most fabulous toilet ever (ultimate toilet) or use a kitchen faucet that turns on simply because we tap it to do so (sensor kitchen faucet!) ?
Mind you it is not always about spending an absurd amount of money on something just because it is cool. I mean the plumbing industry has come a long way and good design doesn’t have to mean expensive (affordable hottness!).
So here we go, if you have any thoughts suggestions or simply want me to cut back on the poop humor, would love to hear from you!
